Help to Make the Right 'Choice'

While in downtown Columbus, Ohio conducting outreach with Created Equal, I spoke to a man named Rick. Rick was looking at one of our signs that has an abortion victim image on it.

I asked him, “What do you think about abortion?” He replied, “I don’t know. I don’t think it’s right to kill someone, but a woman should have a choice.”

I then pointed to a ten-week-old preborn baby that had been aborted and asked him, “Should this person get a choice?” He said, “You have a point. But these images don’t really impact me. I used to be a butcher, so I’m used to this.”

I continued to ask him questions about his worldview. In the middle of our conversation he paused for a moment and began telling me a story saying: “About 20 years ago my wife and I were in the waiting room of an abortion clinic. We thought abortion would be the best option for us, but we just couldn’t do it. We got up and left, and I’m so thankful that we did after seeing these pictures. I can’t imagine doing that to my son.”

I then said, “I’m so thankful y’all left that day and that your son is still alive. Your son now is just as valuable now as he was in your wife’s womb.” Rick replied, “That’s true.”
