Come Walk With Us (Part 20)

   A few miles outside of Mankato, KS we finally started heading South. It seems so good to be headed South. We have had people telling us, since we first arrived in Kansas, that we should go South and then head West. Harry would not do it because that would have taken us into the area of bigger cities and we would have had to walk almost 200 miles South to get to the highway they suggested using. We were hoping that if we walked that same 200 miles heading West we should be starting to get away from some of the humidity.

   By 2:00 PM, the three of us were suffering from the heat. We finally found a small tree at the edge of a pasture. It didn’t offer much shade,  but it was all there was available. We shared the shade with the cattle on the other side of the fence. Shiloh was so hot he didn’t seem to mind them being there. We also shared this spot with snakes! We put our tarp over knee high grass and well used snake holes, keeping our sticks beside us, and asking the Lord to keep the snakes away. We needed to rest out of the sun. The snakes did not show up. (Prov. 1:33).

   The next town is a town out of the past. There was no park that we could recognize as a park. A small, open area had two merry-go-rounds overgrown with tall grass. We decided this must be the park. Harry went to find someone to ask about spending the night, but there wasn’t anyo ...
