Halloween: Just Fun, Or Evil?

   Halloween has been a favorite “holiday” in this country, since the late 1800s/early 1900s. But, what does it represent? There are many different explanations of the intent but one that is generally accepted is that it represents the transition from warm to cold weather, when death would increase. It was a moment each year that the lines between life and death became blurred and that the ghosts of the dead come out.

   But, regardless of what the reasons were, the most common and popular costumes are related to gore, blood, death, wickedness, evil spirits, etc.

   What does God say in regard to having anything to do with wickedness, darkness, worldliness, celebrating death, dead souls, etc.?  “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” (Ephesians 5:11).

   “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” (1 Corinthians 10:21).

   It is clear that we are not to partake in the world, in evil, darkness or the celebration of death. After all, it is the wages of our sin (Romans 6:23); it is by no means something to celebrate and God actually says that “death” is the last enemy to be destroyed! (1 Corinthians 15:26).
