What Is the Purpose of Human Life?

November/December 2023

What is the purpose of human life?  More specific, what is the purpose of your life?  Life, for each of us, came into existence at birth, and out there somewhere, life will cease as we now know it.  “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.  For what is your life?  It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”  (James 4:14).  We see here, the question:  “What is your life?”  James continues in verse 15:  “For that ye ought to say, if the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.”  But, if we live, what is this or that?  If we are to find, and fulfill the real meaning of the interim between birth and death, we must not put off until tomorrow, for we have no guarantee of another day.  “If the Lord will, we shall live.”  Some think they have plenty of time, and they will look into what God’s purpose for them is — tomorrow.  BIG mistake:  “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”  (Proverbs 27:1).  Life for each of us hinges on:  “If the Lord will.”  (James 4:15).

So, let’s go back to our question.  Why are we alive?  Why do we exist?  Why were we created?
