There are many short answers to this article’s title. One who asks Jesus to be their Savior. Many insist we add the word “repent” to the statement. A water baptized believer. Being filled with the Holy Spirit, some say. The real popular one today is, a Christian is a Christ follower. I always find myself thinking, “yah, but what does that look like?” I think the Scripture gives some answers to the question and I am going to explore it a little over the next few months of articles. So, put on your hiking shoes and come along with me as we explore a little of the Old Testament and some of the New to see how God might answer the question, “what does a follower of God and Jesus look like?”
I was a water baptized believer in Jesus, with a four-year Bible College degree. I had written and preached a sermon every Sunday for two years. Yep, taught some Bible studies too. Some were even saying, “that’s what a Christian should look like.” It is interesting how easy it is to forget that God doesn’t look too much at our outward appearance but looks into our heart. God knew my heart. He knew that I was choosing my own ways. When He called, I didn’t listen, I was doing evil in His sight and chose what displeased Him. Isaiah 66:3b-4.
