God gives us many promises, blessings, the privilege of answered prayers and, the most significant, eternal life! But these wonderful gifts are only for the “few” on the narrow way who are truly “deny(ing) themselves,” picking up the cross (this is the cross of CRUCIFIXION — the willingness and commitment to LIVE AND DIE for Christ!), and who follow Him (this is shown in our OBEDIENCE to His Word!).
We are not SAVED by our obedience but it is the EVIDENCE; the FRUIT; the RESULTS of our salvation. Catholics say that we are saved by grace and by our WORKS but that is heresy!
But, it is the evidence of our salvation.
And, Jesus gave us some of the characteristics of being a child of God, ie. we will put Him FIRST, in all things, the members of our own family will be our enemies, we will be hated by everyone on account of Him, we will be persecuted for our faith, etc.
We will certainly not ignore the Great Commission, the “least of these,” the thousands being tortured to death, daily, for “womens’ rights” (just not pre-born “women's rights!”).
