Moses — Insecurity and Self Confidence

   Moses’ life was divided into a trifecta of three forty-year sections. The three sections are: Moses is everything; Moses is nothing; God is everything. This third section is the section we want to be in all the time.

   Being everything and being nothing are really two sides of the same coin. Both pride and insecurity can lead to depression: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

   Both pride and insecurity are based on selfishness. Both focus on self and how “I” compare with others. Both focus on self-esteem. What is self-esteem? It is a self-estimate. It is the estimate or value that we put on ourselves. What is that estimate based on? It is based on what we have allowed society to tell us is important or not. Do we measure up to others? Do we measure up to their standards? When we think we measure better than others, we are proud; when we think we measure lower, we are insecure and cast down. Either way, the focus is on self, what we say or society says about us. Thus, we are the focus and that is the problem. The Bible says, “…they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:12).
