Come Walk With Us (Part 24)

Complimentary Story
March 2024

About five miles out of town, while we stood trying to figure out how to best deal with the storm that was about to hit us, a pickup truck pulled off and a man got out and told us that he had just driven through the storm and unless we wanted to get hit with a real bad one, we had better get our stuff loaded into his truck real quick. We loaded just as quickly as we could and he took us into the town five miles away, where we were able to find some shelter before the storm hit. The Lord snatched us out of the path of the biggest storm we have seen since we left on the walk. Thanks again, Father.

It is Labor Day weekend and we did not want to be walking with traffic being heavy. We decided to stay in town where there was a park we could camp in and supplies a short distance away. Hadassah shared about what we are doing and about how God has provided for us with Mary. She works at the park. When they finished visiting, Mary gave Hadassah a bag of cookies, some snack crackers, and two cold Pepsis. Mary left and shortly she came back with two wonderful hamburgers. She said she thought we might like something hot tonight. Praise God and may He bless her richly. Every time we have been in real need of nourishing food God has provided it. We had just finished walking for nine days straight and the need was very real.

Around 10:00 AM the next morning,  Mary came with coffee — and her husband, Dave, brought a sack of groceries and even snack sticks for Shiloh. Around 5:00 PM, Mary’s husband came to pick her up and brought a large sack of groceries. He said they admire what we are doing. We were awe struck. We knew we needed nourishing food, but this was overwhelming. (Philippians 4:19).

We were able to spend a several hours with Dave and Mary talking about our faith and discussing Scripture. Our discussion was based on salvation through the blood of Christ. Their beliefs are not the same as ours. Although they use the same Bible, they see things differently. Dave is a very high ranking priest in their church organization, so the discussion got quite deep into Scripture.

After that visit, things started to change. About 9:00 PM we were visited by some very vulgar drunks. They were loud and obnoxious, but not dangerous. At best, they were scary. Then,  during the night, we got heavy rain and at 5:00 AM the wind hit. We awakened to the sound of the wind and the feel of canvas on top of us as our tent was blown in, bending the frame. The wind lasted a very short time and we went outside to see how bad the damages were. Our rain fly was completely blown off and lying at the back with pieces literally ripped out of it at the corners where the ropes were attached to it. We had a hole in the tent wall just inches from our heads where the frame broke and ripped through the canvas and there was a small rip in the floor at the back. Stakes were pulled out and one of them had gone through the door and the bug screen. All the frame poles were bent and one was broken completely in two. The side of the tent we were lying on had the most damage. The cart apparently kept the tent from being blown in on the other side. The poles on the side where the cart was were all bent but none of them were broken.

Hadassah realized there was something very strange about this wind. We were camped under a tree and there were no limbs down, no leaves blown off, and no trash cans blown over. There were no visible signs there had been a high wind, except for our tent. After looking the damages over and seeing how completely our tent had been destroyed and the lack of any evidence of a high wind anywhere else,  there was only one logical explanation for what had happened. We have been doing this walk for the Lord and have had many opportunities to witness to people over the past two months. Somewhere along the line we figure we must have made Satan real upset and he did what he could to stop us. Perhaps our in-depth talk with Dave and Mary was more than Satan wanted to hear from us.

God can take any situation and make something good come from it. This incident, Praise God, was no exception! (Romans 8:28). Harry called the company where we purchased the tent and explained the situation. He was told we were sold the wrong tent and they replaced our damaged tent with the one they said we should have had and did not charge any more for it. Praise God, He once again provided for us!

We are settled in and enjoying our new “home.” We dedicated the new tent to the Lord and we know He will take care of it just as He did the old one.

As we were preparing to leave town, Dave again tried to explain why we need a high priest. Harry pointed out that the Bible says we have a High Priest, who is Christ Jesus, and do not need a man as a mediator between God and us. He pointed out this Scripture, Hebrews 4:14-16, in Dave’s own Bible. They are nice people with good hearts. I’m sure they will pray for us and we will do likewise for them.

“And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee...”  (I Chronicles 17:8 KJV).
